About Us

We chose the name Sunrise Farm as it reflects the daily routine that begins at (or before) sunrise as well as to emphasize our dedication and use of solar energy to minimize environmental impacts.

Sunrise Farm is a family oriented farm in Polk County North Carolina. Our objective is to raise animals naturally (not certified organic but very minimal use of chemicals and medications) and eventually make a living at this. We started off with registered Dexter Cattle as well as Katahdin Sheep and mixed breed goats, which have now been replaced by Dairy Goats and American Guinea Hogs.

In the the fall of 2009 we sold off all our sheep, Berkshires hogs, Heritage Turkeys and Cattle to concentrate on our dairy goat operation and American Guinea Hogs. We have recently had our entire dairy goat herd Linear Appraised and  have posted a breeding schedule along with prices for 2010 kids (French Alpines, American Alpines and Nubians) in October if you wish to reserve one. We do offer substantial discounts to 4-H members or participants in the 2010 Spindale Goat festival as well as PDGA (Piedmont Dairy Goat Association) members.

Our goal for the next many years will be to breed Alpine and Nubian dairy goats that can win shows and produce lots of milk. We have acquired foundation stock from many well known quality herds including, Brankton, Goldenbrooke, Hoanbu, Lady-K, Nodaway, Oakmoon, Kickapoo-Valley and S-Stock Exchange (and have Sunshine and Willow Run lines in some of those pedigrees) and are getting to the point were we can establish a closed herd(although we do CAE test annually and all our goats are CAE negative). We also have a plan to add some Western genetics (aka Nixon and Redwood Hills) genetics in 2011 and plan to make use of some AI for the upcoming breeding season.

2010 was our first season actively showing and we already have one permanent champion buck and champion legs on several of our does. In 2011 we hope to be on DHIA test so we can have documented proof of our herd's production capabilities as well.

We want to create a place where our children as well as local children can appreciate the beauty of nature and understand the benefits of conservation and hard work.

Sunrise Farm is a co-ordinated effort between Robin and Ziggy along with Robin's son and daughter and Ziggy's son. Robin is a chemist who works full time as a Quality Manager and Ziggy  works full time as a software business professional for a major software company.

The children, Alex, Kasandra and William help out by feeding and assisting with farm tasks on an age appropriate basis.

Note: Since we are located in an area of many other farms and active equine activity we are open to business proposals for sale and distribution of environmentally friendly products for home and farm use.

Company history
Sunrise Farm was created in 2005 with the purchase of a neglected property of 20 acres. The first year was spent clearing brush and fixing fences as well as purchasing our first farm Animal - a bred Dexter cow named BlueBell from Gene Bowen of Paradise Farm in Virginia.

This website was created on September 21/2006 and will be updated as we have more to offer. Please check back for more information or contact us via email with any inquiries.
