The native home of the Dexter is in the southern part of Ireland where they were bred by small holders and roamed about the shelterless mountainous districts in an almost wild state of nature. Dexter cattle have recently enjoyed resurgence in popularity worldwide among both small and large landholders. Ease of handling, small size (for efficient pasture use), and good-natured personalities have made Dexter cattle a favorite for young and old.
